Why I Do What I Do
Teresa Espinosa, BSN RN NC-BC
Hi, I'm Teresa.
As a Registered Nurse, I've spent years caring for patients in the hospital setting. I love nursing and I'm incredibly thankful for that experience, but over time I started noticing something that stuck with me. I cared for people after they became sick. Suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic illnesses, but I kept wondering, what happened long before they got here?
Could nutrition have made a difference? What about sleep, stress, movement, or environmental exposures? Were there warning signs years before? Were there opportunities to support health before disease developed?
I've always been the person asking, "Why?"
Not just what your symptoms are, but why they're happening.
Those questions eventually led me to functional nursing.
I believe our bodies are always communicating with us. Symptoms aren't just something to silence, they're often clues that deserve to be understood. While there isn't always one simple answer, I believe taking the time to step back, look at the whole picture, and ask better questions can make all the difference.
